We decided that Alea would ride two days back-to-back, since she only rode 21 miles the day before. She rode an additional 36 miles yesterday, to Round Knob, IL. From there we loaded up her bike and drove a short distance to Metropolis, IL, the Home of Superman (that must be true, as the Illinois legislature sanctified the moniker in 1972).
I've kind of wondered to myself what the people from Metropolis call themselves. Are they Metropolitans? ;-)
We camped at Fort Massac State Park ($20, power, showers and community water), which is pretty much located right on the edge of town (to the east). It probably was only about 10% full, which the camp host said was pretty unusual for this time of year. I suspect the heat has most of the full time RVers heading north or into the mountains. We've got our fingers crossed that the heat abates before too long, but we'll continue to deal with things whether it does or not.
