Day 43: Cambridge, MN

The day started out in the upper 30s, so we lingered around Benton Beach Campground in the hopes that the sun would warm things up.  It did (rather slowly), but it was never shorts and jersey weather - vests, arm warmers, warm socks, etc were necessary to stay warm throughout the 60 miles we covered today.

This was mainly a day to rack up some more miles, as there were no sights worthwhile that caught our attention today.  In fact, the only event of note was that our tire pressure monitor went off while Alea was leap frogging me.  She checked the pressure a couple of times, and we clearly had an active leak.

Alea was in full worry mode when I showed up.  I figured I'd have to mount the spare tire, but when we opened up the cubby where the jack is stored we found the can of Fix-a-Flat that we had strategically stored there.  Once the contents were in the tire, Alea drove a few miles down the road to allow the goo to seal up the leak.  When I caught up with her I used the tire pump to get the pressure back over 40 psi (46 psi is recommended for our rear tires) and she was only the road again.

At point were we a dozen miles from our stopping point for the day (Grandy, MN), where we left the Northern Tier Route to camp at the Isanti County Fairgrounds in Cambridge ($25, power and water) a few miles farther south.  That was convenient because there was a Walmart with a tire center nearby, allowing us to restock on groceries and solve a few minor storage issues, all while waiting for the flat to be permanently repaired.  We took that also as an opportunity to leave Lana alone in the trailer with the air conditioner on while we shopped, as there weren't many campers nearby (in the unlikely event that she would howl for us).  We played ball with her before doing so, and left a few treats for her as well.  While she was ecstatic when we came back, she seemed none the worse for wear.

The weather is warming back up to seasonal norms, so we'll be able to hit the road earlier than we've able to lately.  We expect to be camping along the St. Croix River tomorrow, so there should be things of sufficient interest that we'll be taking more pictures.
