Day 165: Lake Claiburne State Park, LA

We got an early start today, as we needed to get restocked in Farmerville before I hit the road.  Once that was out of the way, it was time to head west.  Traffic was heavy in town, but a short distance down the road there was a wide shoulder.  And it wasn't long before I was off on rural farms roads with little traffic.  There were plenty of moderate rollers on today's route, with a few steep roller coaster hills tossed in for good measure.  I managed to cover the 46 miles by a little after 11 am, when the temperature had climbed to the upper 80s.  The humidity was high, as by mid-afternoon the heat index was reading 105.  All I know is that I was sweating buckets all morning long...

We are camped at Lake Claiburne State Park ($28, power, water, free wi-fi and free laundry), on a bluff overlooking the lake.  There are only a handful of other campers here.  We spent the afternoon getting weekend camping reservations lined up for our trip through Eastern Texas, as two of the state parks that we had planned to stay at were already booked solid.  It doesn't appear that finding sites on weekdays will be a problem for us.

Spite & Malice, an evening ritual...
